It is really a matter of personal preference. Generally, most people believe a good sound system will have the sound "appear" to be coming at ear level from the from the front (as if you were listening to the music live at a concert). Thus, they will recommend that you forget purchasing rears altogether, saying they're a "waste of money."

Again, it's really personal preference. Some people like ovals in the back to help reproduce the lower frequencies. If you often carry passengers, rear speakers will allow them to enjoy your sound system much more than without.

I would suggest that you get the fronts first and test them out for a while. If you feel that you need the rear fill, you can get rear speakers then. That way, you don't waste money on speakers if you don't have a need for them.

On a sidenote, have you listened to these in person? Reviews really don't amount to much. People have different tastes and listen to different types of music, so a good speaker for one person may be horrible for another.

Very well put.

I'll I'm going to suggest is I have some 6x9's is you wanna buy some lol.

Polk Audio db690's

EDIT: looking now I dont even know if you have a car with 6x9's but hey worth a shot right?

Mostly people get rear fill if they just like having better then stock, have alot of passengers in their cars, just like the sound with rearfill, or have a DVD setup where surround sound is most wanted. So if you dont really fit any of those descriptions, they probably aren't for you.

No, its not needed by any means, but most people would say you will never really see what the capabilities of the speaker is unless its running a little bit of power.

It's still going to sound better then the stocks most likely, it will just sound much better with an amp most of the time. Also, huge bass isn't really seen in 4" speakers so much. But you may notice better mid-bass with a different speaker vs stock.

Don't buy anything for the rear and get a 6.5" set for the front and the front only.

When you have more money to spend, get an amp for the front speakers.

My Rec's are in this thread.

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t178548.html

For a headunit, I'd only get the Pioneer Premier DEH-P780MP and the DEH-P880PRS. I'd get the PRS if I wanted to wire active and the 780MP if I didn't plan on it(get the 780MP)

For a sub, heres some ~100 dollar subs I would rec.

TC Sounds db-500

http://www.tcsounds.com/db500.htm Only 75 bucks for a 12" and it's got a TC2 motor.

If you got a little more, this sub is VERY good.

http://www.tcsounds.com/tc9.htm

The phoenix Gold RSD sub gets very good reviews and it's pretty cheap (~100 bucks)

The A/D/S Reference sub is a VERY good SQ sub for cheap.
