Switching from CDs to digital music...

As I am very behind the times on digital music, I'd like some input on what the best setup for me is. I want a way to digitize my current music and while I am fairly computer saavy, I'm not smart on the multiple media files and players out there.

Factors to consider:

My wife and I have 350 CDs collected through the years, I would like to put all of them (entire length) onto the player with some room for expansion....I know this bumps up the $$ factor a lot.

My 07 Camry has a built in "WMA/MP3 playback capability" Our other vehicle does not (04 Acura MDX) but does have a decent Bose system with a six disc indash player and Navigation. We'd like to have two players that would both work in both vehicles. I guess I will need an adapter of some sort for the Acura.

We of course would like to buy individual songs to add to the player in the future.

Player size should be relatively small.

Reliability is very important.

I understand that Apples' music will need an Ipod setup.

Video playback isn't a big requirement, although I understand I might change my mind about that.

I prefer (although I don't require) that I have more than one website to buy music from.

I have checked out Cnet and some other sites somewhat, but I really need to hear what has worked for you, especially those of you who transferred a big CD collection over to digital music.

Suggestions/personal experiences?

The camry with the MP3 playback will allow you to burn a few hundred songs onto one cd. You would have to use windows media player or equivalent program to 'rip' your music cd's into mp3 format. Besides being time consuming, its quite and easy process. That would greatly consolidate your music collection.

In terms of a music player, i've been sucked into the ipods. I've had a flawless ipod mini and a new 8gb nano. If you're car has an aux IN port then you can use any audio player with a male to male audio cable to play music from your player to car.

There are FM wireless adapters too, but sometimes those don't work too well, especially if the radio antenna is in the REAR of the car. Sound quality is lacking too.

My car personally has an alpine head unit with the ipod direct attachment. I plug in my ipod on my glove compartment, and i control everything full speed from my alpine headunit. it also charges my ipod. There are other head units that do the same.

There are many options to choose from. www.crutchfield.com maybe able to help you out. Or i'd visit an audio shop to see your options even if you decide to keep your stock headunits.

The Ipods are definitely hard to pass up...they just look too cool to resist. It will probably be either that or a Zune...
