I am looking into buying a subwoofer for my 97 Corolla. I currently have Infinity 6012CS woofers in the rear deck and one of them blew the other day. I only have low frequencies going to the rear speakers so I figured I should just replace them with a sub. My 5012CS components in the front take care of all the highs and mids.
My amp in an Infinity 7451a and I will be using 2 of its 4 channels for the sub (I cannot afford a new sub amp at the moment). The amp is 111w RMS @ 4ohms and 278w RMS when bridged...unfortunately Infinity does not list peak ratings. Keeping that in mind, what would you guys recommend?

You provided some needed info however to better get an idea of what may work best in your particular situation you'd need to provide a bit more-
What is your budget for the sub?
Retail or online?
What size speakers are up front and where do you have them cossed over at?
What is your main objective-SQ, SPL or a combination?
"Tight" or "boomy"?
How much room are you willing to give up?
What type of music do you mainly listen to?
What level do you normally play at ie when talking to a passenger with the stereo playing at your normal level:
a. could you talk in a normal voice?
b. would you need to raise your voice a bit?
c. or would you need to yell?
Do you plan to expand in the future (more subs or power)?
Don't forget that the correct size/type of enclosure (for the particular sub as well as your listening tastes/application) and speaker positioning play major roles in how your bass will sound. Also, strong midbass plays a very important role in getting "tight" bass.
BTW, don't ever pay attention to an amps "peak" rating. It's a marketing gimmick to make people think they are getting more power than they actually are! RMS ( or as I like to call it "real" power) at what voltage/impedance is what you should use to compare amp power.
My budget for a sub is probably $100-150 and I will most likely be buying it from eBay (dont worry I only buy new.) My speakers up front are 5.25" with tweeters. I don't know exactly what I have the low-pass set to for them, but I can easily adjust it on the amp as needed.
My main goal is sound quality. I would much rather have it sound good than purely focusing on how much I can get it to 'boom.'
Since I have a Corolla my trunk isn't the largest, but I will gladly give up a chunk of it to get good quality sound.
I mainly listen to rock with moments of trance and rap on occasion. When there are other people in the car I usually have to yell at them...and sometimes its louder if I am alone.
I don't really intend to expand more in the future...but that certainly isnt set in stone. If I do ever expand I would definetly be getting another amplifier.
Thanks for your help...let me know if you need any more info.

from what you listen to you need a small sub or none.
becasue i have two tens and when i play rock hardly anything comes out (low pass at 100 h)
so i would go with a good set of door and rear deck speakers off a separte amp to get realy high quality sound. you wont even hear the sub when listen to rock..
and sound dent material..
just my 2 cents

I beg to differ...I have had my low pass set at anywhere from 75-125hz and I cannot stand the lack of depth that the music had. I am sure my desire for that depth is what lead to the blowing of my rear 6.5" speaker.
My front door speakers have excellent sound when it comes to mids, and especially the highs. I also already have sound deadening material in the floor, doors, trunk and rear deck.

Based on your answers I'd have to agree with going with a single twelve in a sealed enclosure. My personal favorites in that price range would be an IDQ12 or even an old school JL Audio 12w6 however as mentioned there are a ton of subs out there that will fit the bill.
I bought myself a sub. Since ive been pleased with the quality of Infinity products before (ive blown several of their speakers, but thats entirely my fault ) I decided to get a 12" Infinity 1252W sub. I also picked up a 1.3 cubic foot sealed enclosure for it.
I have it using 2 channels of my amp (total of 222watts continuous) so the sub is running at 4ohms. This beauty produces clear crisp bass, and lots of it. It can be had for about $80 online, but I paid $100 at WorstBuy just to be able to return it if it wasnt what I wanted. It has performed extremely well with any type of music ive thrown at it.
I still have to tweak the amp to get the most out of this sub. I havnt changed the settings on it from where they were with the 2 6.5"'s in the rear.
