This might be a stupid question.

I have a JL E1800D amp right (1000 watts RMS)... and I have 2 Pioneer Premier Subs (400 watts RMS)... Can I add another sub to the amp? It probably won't be no more than 100 watts. Yeah I know I haven't learned my lesson, but this question has been running through my head for 2 weeks now. Diss me or kiss me I don't care what the comments are I just wanted to know. I don't plan on buying anything neither.

Hey! It ain't much to beat the block down, but it'll work for now...

Your amp is rated to put out
- 480 W RMS x 1 @ 4 ohm OR
- 800 W RMS x 1 @ 2 ohm

im assuming each Pioneer sub is 4 ohms. then u can wire them in parallel to give a final load of 2-ohms. each sub can handle 400 W RMS and the amp will put out 800W RMS, a pretty good match in power handling.

i would NOT add another sub to the same amp. if u wire it in parallel to the others, u will get a load lower than 2 ohms, and ur amp wont handle that 4 an extended period of time. it will run super hot.

if u really want a triple-sub installation, go 4 those factory-made boxes from JL or KICKER. they use subs with wiring configurations that give final loads of either 4 or 2 ohms, safe for most amps. that takes the guess work out of wiring.

this link shuld be good reading on this subject...

Well, if you really wanted to run three SVC 4 ohm subs you can wire two of the subs in series to create an 8 ohm load, then in parallel, hook up the third. This would give you a 2.667 ohm load, I think.

Not a very efficient setup though. For example, if your amp put out 800 watts at 2.667 ohms, then the subs in series would split 400 watts evenly between each other, and the third wired in parallel would get 400 watts.

Someone pry will chime in a correct my guesstimating...

ur right. u'll get a final load of 2.667 ohms. most sub amps give an RMS output rating at 4-ohms and 2-ohms. so u'll get an output somewhere in between the 2 ratings. thus, u wudlnt be using ur amp to its fullest potential.

ur right again on the wattage distribution. the 2 subs in series will share 400 watts. the 3rd sub in parallel will play at all 400W. all 3 subs wont move the same amount of air at the same time. sure, they'll all move in phase with each other, but im sure u wont bet the best, uniform bass with this setup.

go with a pair of subs and wire them to achieve a final 2-ohm load. if u really want 3 subs, get a prefab box by JL, Kicker, or MTX.
