Updating '93 LC Sound System?

I just got a 93 Landcruiser from my parents. Everythings great but the only problem is the sound system. CDs dont even play so I need a new head unit. But more importantly, the speakers are horrible. I have no clue where to start -- what kind of speakers & head unit I should buy, where to get it installed, what would be cheapest, etc. Any suggestions? Please be specific -- i know absolutely nothing about cars Thanks

well first go to a website like crutchfield.com so you can find out exactly what size and how many speakers are in your vehicle and browse the head units they have to find something you like after that check e bay and different online stores for the best pricing

Your LC is a sweet ride, one of the best off-road vehicles ever built.

As you know, that stock audio system sucks.

You have a couple options but I would recommend the simple route. Nice mids/tweets in the doors and get rid of the dash mounted tweeters that fire into your knees.

You can put midbass drivers in the rear doors and a sub in the rear.

That will give you a simple yet solid sound system that will be extremely flexible for upgrading.
