Gen1 Adding Sub to 97 Avalon XLS

I have a 97 Avalon with 6 factory speakers installed. I am missing the 7th (Subwoofer). Can anyone tell me what size will fit the factory location? I searched on this board and have some people saying 8" while others say 6". I am also wondering if all of the Avalons are pre-wired for the 7th speaker? If so, am I restricted to a certain watt or ohm subwoofer and where can I find the harness in the trunk?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about a '97, my my Moms 95 (with 6 speakers) is not prewired for the sub. it has the mounting hole for it, and it is for an 8" sub. You would have to either cut the rear deck, or find a replacement one from a car that came with the sub.

My mom's car had one of the old analog phones built into it with the processing unit under the rear seat. The wire was run below the covers on the door sills so it should be easy to run your own wire back there for the sub. Your factory amp (170 watts peak) will not be able to power a sub...at all. I would suggest running a power wire for the sub down one side of the car, and the signal wire on the other side (to avoid interference). Hopefully someone else can help you more with what you should tap into for a signal.

An 8" sub won't produce as much low-end frequencies as a 10" or 12", but it will certainly add a lot to the factory system.
