Question Are these subs roasted?

I've got a pair of Infinity Kappa 10" subs that I got from a friend. He was ready to throw them away but once I got to looking at them I thought there was possibly a chance that they aren't done for good. On each sub 2 of the 4 wires circled (there are two on each side) are burnt. One of them is burnt all the way through. I'm wondering if all that needs to be done is to replace these wires and they'll be fine, or no? Thanks in advance...

You will most likely be able to salvage those subs by just soldering on new lead wires. If the lead wires got burned out, it served as a fuse, most likely protecting the voicecoil from burning out.

That's kinda what I was thinking, I'm VERY glad to hear that. Could I purchase replacement lead wire at somewhere like Radioshack? or, is it just regular speakerwire?

Good question, where to get lead wire...hmm.

I guess you can try Radio Shack or find a donor subwoofer.

Good luck on the project!

Thanks. Is there a technical name for this type of wire?

"tinsel lead wire"

The "lead" is pronounced "leed", not "led"
