Once the front is lifted up, you can pull it straight out (with a little beding at the edges). Ive had the rear deck off my car probably a dozen times and the bending doesnt harm anything.

I just had to replace the rear speakers in my Mom's '95, and having this process helped a bunch!
Here are some clarifications to the above process that might help others:
* The rear seat bottom cushion has 2 clips anchoring it down underneath the front edge of the cushion. Just pull up on the cushion to release these clips, then the whole seat bottom slides forward and out easily.

* Removing the rear seat side bolsters is easy. They're held in by a single bolt at the bottom (11mm, IIRC). After removing the bolt, lift UP and out on the bolster; don't pull it straight out.

* Removal of the 3rd tail light is required, unfortunately. There are two plastic lock pins on the light housing. You can probably work them out with a flathead screwdriver, or an upholstery tool. Once the pins are out, the cover comes right off. Then there are two bolts holding the light in place; remove those, and disconnect the electrical plug, and you're done.

* The rear deck cover has 3 clips along the front edge. The clips can be released by hand, but a panel tool might help. After releasing these, you can pull the cover out with a little effort and bending the edges slightly, as the OP mentioned.

* What's tricky about the deck cover are the factory speaker covers, which you do NOT want to remove. Note they are held on by pressure clips and you will likely knock one or two of these off and/or break the clip off while removing the deck cover, so be as careful as you can. Secondly, there is a foam ring around the factory speakers that fits into the covers. You don't need it, but in case you want it, be careful not to tear it when removing the deck cover; in my case, the car's age meant the foam was pretty well deteriorated and falls apart easily.

* One other note about the deck cover. There are 6 metal clips along the back edge that hold the cover in place beneath the rear window. Make sure you seat these clips when replacing the cover. In the picture below, you can see the deck cover's front and rear clips:

* The speakers themselves are standard 6.5" speakers. I bought some Kenwoods for my Mom's car, which were a drop-in replacement, including the wiring.
* If you want to keep the foam rings, a hot glue gun is perfect for gluing them to the new speakers.
* Reverse your steps to re-assemble everything. Here is a new speaker, with the foam ring on (notice the smooshed/torn foam):
This write-up, which I think is for a Camry, also helped me:
