3rd Generation Recommendations on 2-din head unit

Hey everyone,

I just got a '99 4Runner but the factory CD player is broken. I want to replace it, but I want to get a double din head unit if possible. Any recommendations on whats good/will last for under $400?

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't go with a double din, but, if you must, this Kenwood is pretty nice. Kenwood also has another double din that's a step up from that, but they've got it for $450.

Thanks. If you wouldn't go with a double din, what would you suggest, and what would I do with the extra 2 inches?

Buy one of these. When you install the new head unit it will mount under the new receiver. It's almost too easy and it looks like the "pocket" had always been there. If you would've bought your vehicle with just the factory radio and without a cd player there most likely would've already been a pocket there.

alright cool. I was looking at normal head units, and came up with this, an Alpine CDA-9857. Would that have enough power to set up a small system, just a sub plus the speakers that are already there, or would I have to get an amp?

That Alpine is a great receiver. I almost bought it myself, but I ended up getting a Kenwood KDC-X891 because I liked the display alot better. They both have great iPod interfaces if that means anything to you.
