ported sub box help?

well i have 1 12" pioneer tsw-306c in a sealed box. I am going to eventually pick up another one when i find a deal on them. I think im going to have a ported box with the 2 subs. Should i go ported or stick with sealed?

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...etailComponent

So those are the sub(s) i have. they have a Recommended Enclosure 0.85 ~ 1.75 Cubic Feet.

I have 36"(length) x 13" (width) x 15(height) of room to play with. Can someone help me with a nice design that will be good for my subs? just something simple. The only reason im asking for help is because i have no clue how wide the port should be and how far back the port should go. Thats really all i need. Or do you guys know any sites that will lead me in the right direction?

thats my idea of the box. its just i need to find out the specs and the port specs so if any one can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

ps. just wondering what is the best type of screws to use on the MDF wood when constructing a sub box ?

try and use this site to calculate the port

http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm

i would go with a ported box over a sealed box b/c its louder. sealed is more for sound quality and ported is more for loudness.

dont use screws that have the treads close together, use ones that are a little wider so that way it will catch onto the mdf

Port (length) is calculated based on enclosure volume, tuning frequency, and area of port opening (round or rectangular).

Based on your measurements, you have around 4 cu. ft. to work with. Don't forget to take sub displacement, port displacement, thickness of wood, and internal volume into account.

As far as screws, I use drywall screws. They come in coarse and fine thread.

I have those subs too -- I didn't think you could use ported boxes off those; car audio speacialists recommended sealed boxes only .

^ill find out soon how it will sound

i actually am using a different design...
im seperating the middle so its just like 2 ported boxes cominbded into one.

im not sure if this is what im gonna build im going to wait a bit but the dimensions are. 36x12x16.5

the INTERNAL size of One chamber of the box (since its seperated) is ... 16.875 x 10.5 x 15 which comes up to 1.54 Cu^3 per chamber... would that sound good ? the port is going to be 3 inches and 8.5inches long

anyone think this is a good dimension? or do you have something you would recomend me to adjust

^ oh ya the size might be less for the internal because i didnt subtract the size of the sub or the wood for the port
