Adding Subs

I have a 1998 Toyota Avalon XLS, if I wanted to add some subs would this be everything I need or would I need a new headunit?
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/bundleDetail.do?oid=146679&bundleId=7830&c=1&cm_re =main%20marquee-_-Rock%20your%20car%E2%80%94save%20up%20to%20$160%20 on%20bass%20packages-_-See%20this%20Sony%20bundle

And would I have to buy new speakers or are the ones that I have now ok to go with the new subs? Thanks!

You can add subs to an otherwise stock system. You'll need some line output converters to do that and you'll need to figure out how to do the remote turn on. You can hook the remote wire to ACC.

You'll also need wires to connect power and signal to the amp.

You may need speaker wire to connect the subs to the amp also, and possibly terminals if the enclosure doesn't have any.

Honestly though, Sony would not be my first choice for subs or amps.

i plan to add my sub from my old car to my 05 Camry SE using a line out converter... i have an in dash eclipse dvd unit that im planning to put in later on but for now im just going to hook up the sub..

all u gotta do is run power wire from the battery to the amp, remote turn on wire from the fuse box(since you will have all your panels off from running the power wire anyway) to the amp, and then some speaker wire from your rear speakers to the line out converter and RCA's from the line out converter to your amp.. pretty simple stuff, basically like installing an amp to a head unit

I'd have Circuit City install it because I don't know much about installing stereo equipment, but they will probably be able to install it without me having to buy a new headunit right, and I'll be able to control the sub output with my headunit right? Also is the subwoofer in there already still going to work or what? And just out of curiousity the subwoofers aren't going to overpower my speakers so I can't even hear the lyrics and music are they? Thanks

Pry no. There are amps out there that have wired/wireless remote bass knobs. Rockford Fosgate is one that I can think of at the moment that has wired ones.

It is a possibility, but you can set the levels so they do not.

So if a got an amp with a remote or whatever the headunit would still be fine? I'm just not to sure how the subwoofer gets hooked up. Is there an extra spot in the headunit where it can get plugged in, I mean I'm having CC do it for me but I don't understand how it works.

If you kept your stock stereo...

Very simplified description...

CC would tap your rear speaker wires with a line level converter, and run patch cords to the amp. They would run a power wire from your battery to the amp and a ground wire from your amp to screw in metal. A remote wire would be hooked up to make the amp comes on with the car. Speaker wires would be ran to the subwoofers.

-OR-

The same as above, but they would tap the rear speakers, and run the wires directly to the amp.

Your headunit would be fine. The remote would only affect the amp.

I am not sure if your headunit has an "extra spot". I am guessing no though.

Thanks a lot that was helpful, what setup would you recommend? I don't want to spend over 500 dollars on this. And I was reading that this can screw up your alternator and car battery if the subs are of high wattage, is this true?

if you use your line out converter on your stock system with the Bass setting you can some what control the volum of hte sub but then you are also turning down or up the bass of the interior speakers. If it is still too loud you can set the gains on the amplifier lower or set the signal on the line out converter down too. If you get that system you will need a ... PWR cable running from the battery. A ground wire to ground the amp. Short RCA's if your going to hook up the line out converter to the rear speakers. A wire to turn on the amp... doesnt have to be a thicker gauge wire... (i ran mine from the fuse box) and some speaker wire to connect the subs to the amp... That should be it.
