well i have 2 12" pioneer ts-w306c and sadly they are conent to a weak kicker kx200.2 (200 W amp) i thought it wouldnt be a problem underpowering them for a bit as i save up for a better amp. Well im using the stock deck in the gen6 cam. Line out converter.
I turn the gains and line out converter down but if i turn up the volume so the subs start pounding my amp will turn it self off and back on. it will stay on if i keep my volume low. I notice the time it DOES stay on...the amp has a little red light that lights up but that light dims every time the bass hits...then eventually the amp turns it self off and back on...anyone know what my problem could be ? and i will be gettin a new amp around summer time so i need a solution for now . Like i know some cars the system will dim the car lights etc but i dont know why the amp is dimming.
sorry they both are single voice coil subs.. 4ohm each and they are both connected to one bridged chanel... so there fore they are in paralel to make 2ohms.
Well i know the amp supports bridgeing... not less than a week ago i was just running 1 12" ...4ohm bridged and it did the same...jkust a couple days ago i got a second 12". So 4ohm birdged or 2 ohm it still did the same. I will try hooking a sub up to its own channel tomorow morning to see if that helps.
my head ligths are fine...ill turn it on with the car just on acc and the map lights dont dim at all... plus this is a brand new car so the battery+alternator should be fine... im kinda stumpped on why.,..im guessing the amp is just too weak...also i bought it at the pawn shop used but i dont think there was any problems with it...it works fine at lower volums
the subs are wired in a 2 ohm load and the amp can only handle 4 when it is bridged. try hooking up one sub to each channel. it will stop the amp from going into protection mode and possible blowing it.
^ come to think of it i thikn my ground might be the problem...when i installed i didnt buy a amp kit... enough 8gauge for the power wire so i used that and since i had a line out converter in the trunk i jus used a short rca cable but i didnt have any more 8ga power cable for the ground but i had some 12gauge ( i think) so i use that as the ground...its fairly small... i remember reading some where that the ground + pwr should be the same size which makes sense. So having that smaller ground could be causing this problem ?
^for sure tomorow after im done school im going to look for local stores that sell wire by the foot. Hopefully i can find some and this fixes my problem. im guessing the subs are robbing power from the amp faster than the amp is gettin power from the battery since the ground is small
Yea definatly not a good thing you had that small of wire for the ground. Make sure you also get down to bare metal when connecting the ground, and the connection to metal will be weak from paint.
That amp is definatly going into protect mode to keep itself from blowing. Its minimum independence bridged is 4 ohms, not alot of 2 channels can handle 2 ohms, or are 2 ohm stable bridged.
Should be alot better when you get those to things fixed.
i got a new ground...i was able to turn the volume up a bit higher but it still reset...i then switch it from 2ohm bridge to 4ohm 2ch.. now it works perfect. thanks for the help guys
