Custom fitting in speakers...

Okay I need some help, I just recently bought some audio components for my 94 prizm. I bought components for the rear and 4" speakers for the front and a new headunit. Now my problem is that the components sound SOOO much better than the front speakers that I really want to put components up in the front too. There aren't really any side mount 4" components and I was wondering if anyone could help me or tell me how to fit in 5 1/4 inch components in there? I would really love to add components, i can figure out how to mount the tweeters but i'm having trouble getting ideas as far as how to mount the speakers in the stock location. I figure i'll have to make a spacer to seperate it from hitting the window when it's down and also make it fit... but taht's where i need ideas. This is my first time doing anything with audio and any advice would help. The most customization I've done so far is I've made custom adapters from MDF to fit the 5 1/4 inch components I have in the rear.

Thanks!

without any pictures i can't really help too much, but what your probably going to need to make is a speaker pod out of fiberglass. this will space it out a bit, and you can mold it into the door to look semi factory.

If you remove the factory speaker mounts (3 screws I believe), you can screw 5.25" speakers directly into the sheet metal. You will lose the bottom 3" of window travel however.

I have been meaning to cut a custom mount for the 5.25" speakers so that they are not far enough into the door to interfere with the window, but it has almost been a year since I installed the speakers.

In my car, with infinity 5.25" reference components in the front, it looks like there is about 1/3" of spacing needed to make the speaker magnet clear the window regulator track. With different speakers it could be more or less, but I dont see many 5.25" speakers needing more than a half inch of spacing. Since the factory mount stuck out from the door frame, I dont see a spacer giving you problems with the door panel fitting either.

wow gideon these are just exactly the answers I've been looking for. One more question gideon, I have reference 5010cs components in the back which are the 5 1/4, i heard that those shouldn't be used sideways, is it okay? could you link me to the ones you have? Thanks a lot
