Would the Alpine SWR-1222D 12" 2Ω Subwoofers be better in a ported box or a sealed box?
I'm thinking about selling my Premier subs since I can't put them in a ported box or not?
I'm still using the same amp and changing into 0 gauge power/ground cables

Hey! It ain't much to beat the block down, but it'll work for now...
O personally have the type r 12" dual 2 ohm wired down to 1 ohm getting somewhere near 600wrms. I have it in a big ported box (2.3xft^3) that I had custom made. This thing gets really loud, too loud right now since I dont have any sound deadening my trunk rattles like crazy

the alpine type R is a good sub. it will def be louder in a ported box vs sealed. but it will sound best if the ported box is custom-built to specs. try not to buy a generic box from the swap meet or anythin like that, u wont be gettin the most out of it.
Alpine suggested size is actually a bit small and imo limits the sub a bit. And wouldn't it sound best in the sealed box since that is more of a sql setup.
JayMax03, what are your goals for the sub? Do you want good sound quality or loudness
hmm it would be perfect power at like 14.4v and then it goes a bit under at the 12.5. You kinda need to choose from running it at 4 ohms and possibly risk messing up your sub if the voltage jumps upo and down. Or you can run at 2 ohms and just play it with your gains lower and it could get louder that way too. Or you could run 2 and just be a bit under rms
thats probably what I was thinking and then get a capacitor. but to go back to your previous post you're saying I'm better off running in a sealed box?

No not necessarily, I have a ported type r and I like it. Sealing subs generally makes the quality how nice it sounds better than in a ported box. But ported boxes get louder, and usually people port type r's. So if you have the space to port 2 12's then I think you would be very happy with the outcome. Just make sure to give them at least the recommend 1.7ft^3 I believe it is per driver so 3.4ft^3 at least combined(of course minus the wood and the sub itself).
i had two 12'' alpine type R's before running off two mrd-m605 (600 rms each) in a ported box and i was setting off car alarms left and right and sounded great
