2 ohm and 4ohm speakers on same stereo

I looked using the search and didn't see anything like this in particular. I have an aftermarket Sony head unit stereo installed. Is there a problem with having 4 ohm speakers on the front channels and 2 ohm speakers on the rear channel. I've read that the lower the ohms the more heat from the headunit. Will mixing ohms cause the stereo to fail? Is 2 ohms just too little resistance for just an aftermarket headunit?

most aftermarket HU's dont give specs at 2-ohms, becuz its not recommended. lower resistance may squeeze a little more wattage from the HU, but it will make the internal amp run hotter than normal. im curious, wut kind of speakers do u have that are 2-ohms?

no, you dont want to/cant run 2ohm speakers off the head. +4ohm you can.

curious though - what 2ohm speakers are you trying to run off the head?

I was looking at some 5x7's on ebay that were listed as 2ohm. Sorry, I've deleted the listing, but I do know that they were listed as Infinity.

Wait a minute... does that rule applies to subwoofers and amps also? I have a fan in the back of my HU and it is hotter than usual but everything seems to play fine

yes, that rule applies to subs n sub amps, too. if you're runninh hotter than usual, that's not good. it will eventually fail on you.

most decent sub amps can handle 2-ohm loads mono. but just check the amp specs to make sure. it will have a 4-ohm and 2-ohm rating.

before i knew about resistance and wiring (like 10 yrs ago), i wired a pair of 4-ohm subs in parallel, which gave a final 2-ohm load. then i hooked that up to an MTX amp in mono. the amp ran VERY hot after pounding bass. that amp was not meant to play mono at 2-ohms and it ran hella hot.

You could run 2 ohm speakers, but you would need to get another pair of two ohms speakers, and run those in series with the other 2 ohm speakers, to get a "safe" 4 ohm load.
