its neither an upgrade or a downgrade ... a common myth about subwoofers is that the bigger the woofer, the louder the sound ... that is false

the bigger the woofer, the lower the range it has ... so a 15" sub will pick up lower notes than a 12", and a 12" will pick up lower notes than a 10", etc.

so if you are pleased with your current range, then you shouldnt change to a different size ... you may just want to sell the 12"s and get one 12" that has a higher RMS wattage rating

It depends on what kind of bass your looking for? I had 2-10" for my first subs, then I went and got 1-15", then I went to 2-12" and now currently running 2-12" subs. Out of all the subs, I like 2-12" because they can get pretty low and they have a good punch to them. Unlike the 15" it shook the shit out of me and cars in the parking lots, although it bass you can feel more then hear. 12" sounds louder, but the 15" can move air. For example when i had my 15" sub i closed the windows in the car and turned the a/c off and the sub blew out my lighters flame. I prefer 2-12" then a 15", but only my preference. good luck!!!

+2

or better yet get a higher wattage amplifier. then use your current sub. that will surely improve your system rather that getting a new sub with the same amp.
