Kicker L7 Solobaric vs. Boston Acoustics Pro Series Sub

Hi,

I'm in a dilema of which sub the buy. Either the Kicker L7 12" Solobaric 2ohm sub or a Boston Acoustic 12.5LF Pro Series Sub. Which is better? I need to know a.s.a.p. You guyz probably know alot more than me about car audio so help me out if you can. Thanks.

There's a lot of stuff that's better than both of those and cheaper too. Head over to caraudio.com and read the forums.

if you're willing to pay for the boston's....get em.....unfuckin' believable quality with some decent spl too......but then again, if you just want noise....get some jl's......

I had two....until I blew 'em both, along with my amp :p ......

too cheap to replace them....

Bah, JLs are overpriced. The only good ones are the W7s but they're not worth the $800 price tag.

For car audio... nothing is absolutely better than anything else. A sub may have more SPL than another but not as good SQ or vice versa. Also, you have to weight the price to performance ratio and other such things.

What do you mean by quality? Build quality? Sound quality? It's all subjective. Do a little reseach and find out which one better suits your needs.

Yeah...you're right! I did a bit of researchon the both of them. They are both great. The L7's I believe hit really hard but the sound quality of the Boston's are amazing. There's wasn't anything bad about them besides requiring an amp with at least 500RMS. Mine amp is benchtested at 681RMS.

Here's my options:

Kicker 12" L7 Solobaric brand new $280 w/o enclosure

Boston Acoustic 12.5LF Pro Series Sub $300 w/enclosure. Used for 1 1/2 months with a Kaption 250RMS Amp.

What do you think I should get. I prefer abit of Bass and Sound quality. It's pretty hard to choose.

Wow. This is actually a tough choice. The amplifier power is 50-1200 on the Boston Acoustics. Assuming that that's RMS, I would go with those. You're going to want a bigger amp than that for the sub though, 250 rms won't be enough for you, and it could possibly even damage the sub. However, if you match that up with a more powerful amp you'll have both good SPL and SQ. I think the Kicker is capable of being louder, just compare the thinkness of the surrounds, but if you're not trying to win SPL competitions then I would suggest the Boston Acoustics.

It's a tough choice...the 250RMS amp was used by the previous owner. My amp is benchtested at 681RMS so I can use it on whichever on I choose. I might as well go for the L7 then because the Boston sub may be damaged since I low wattage amp was used.

Are you buying these locally or from an online store or ebay? If you're buying locally, check out the subs and listen to them, see which you like better. The reason the Boston Acoustics could have been damaged is because with only 250 watts going to the sub, the owner could have turned the volume way up which would have caused the amp to clip and possibly damage the sub.

I really hate how the L7 pounds. Its loud and all but it's not like real bass to me. I had an L7 in a ported box running off an MTX amp in my Camry. It was loud and all that shit but I didn't like them. I love the 2 JLW6's I have right now, too bad they aren't mine. If I were you I'd get some Kicker Comp VR's. They are like the best bang for the buck. I had 1 12" Kicker Comp Vr in a sealed box and that pounded about as hard as a JLW6. You can get 2 12" Comp Vr's off ebay for about 200 dollars brand new.

EH. I had a bad experience, ok? Just make sure that whomever you buy subs off has over 1000 rating and over 95% positive feedback. I suggest not buying off ebay but if you have to, just be careful. And be careful with the sub too, you usually don't get a warranty with it.
