Exclamation fabricating in-dash lighting help

I am installing a DIN size radio into my Double DIN space. I bought a Scoshe dash kit to install the radio but I didn't like the way the the shelf under the radio looked so I decided to mold in a rear lighted TRD OFF-ROAD symbol. I molded in a piece of tinted plexiglass, coated it with bondo and painted it black. It looks great but when I installed the LED's they barely lit up the design. It seems the LED's only lit up what was directly above the bulb. Is there a better lighting method to use or do I need more LED's? Maybe I have the wrong kind(I used 12 high intensity LED's)? I've seen this mod done in a magizine article but I cannot find the article now or locate any information on this type of mod.

Please help. I could really use the advice right now. If no one gives me any better ideas I might buy alot of low intensity LED's and make some sort of LED plate that covers the whole backing.

Thanks in advance

Just in case in anyone was wondering what I did to fix the problem,
I scrapped the tinted glass. swapped it out for etched glass. then I put a neon tube behind the glass with a mirrored box around it. worked out pretty well.

Yeah I will as soon as I get it installed in the truck. It may be a little while. I'm expecting to get my exhuast system today. I'll most likely be spending my extra time this weekend putting that on.

It's not that complicated when you see it, it's just hard to describe it. Thanks for taking the time to look.
