i'm in the process of buying a DIN sized plate for my switches. they have an option for a starter button that peaked my interest for a brief second. you still need your key in the ignition turned almost on like you would with a car starter/alarm system. although the button has the coolness factor to it... you could just as easily turn your wrist another 10 degrees to start the car with the key as you normally would.
Yeah but can you still start your car normally once you have the starter button? I mean, does it disable the keys' fuction, beyond having it in the ignition for security reasons?
You better never have a friend ride in the car with you. hah ha!
If you want to completely disable the "RUN" feature, you have to cut the starter wire inside the steering column. Basically, it's similar to how a remote start is wired up. Here is how I see it, you would need the push button with momentary (not toggle) switch and a 30-amp SPST relay.
1) One end of switch goes to 12V.
2) One end of switch goes to 85 terminal of relay.
3) Terminal 86 of relay goes to ground.
4) Terminal 30 of relay goes to 12V (use 12-gauge wire).
5) Terminal 87 of relay goes to starter wire on the starter side, not ignition side (use 12-gauge wire).
So you would just push the start button until the car cranks.
