Scosche Industries has announced it is shipping a new OEM iPod interface for select 2004-up Lexus, Toyota, and Scion vehicles. The interface, named AXIPTA, allows full control of the iPod through the factory radio. Control features include full text scrolling, full iPod menu navigation including artist, genre, album and song title, seek up and down, and volume control through the factory radio. The interface also includes an additional universal RCA audio input, and features plug-n-play installation with all the necessary harnesses included. “We are pleased to add the Toyota interface to our family of OEM integration products,” said Kas Alves, vice president, sales and marketing, Scosche Industries. “Our new interfaces allow consumers to upgrade their factory radios to control their iPod and our AXIPTA allows the user more flexibility. We are proud to bring another first-to-market product with our newest Toyota interface.” The Scosche AXIPTA is available now for $200.
I've narrowed my selection down to (4) companies' products which integrate the ipod through the headunit and support steering wheel control of the iPod.
All are between about $120 and $200, and I narrowed it to these (4) because they all support browsing by more than pre-made playlists. They allow browsing by Artist, Genre, Album, etc as well. Problem is, since unless you can see a manual tailored for your specific car, stereo, and Nav system, it is difficult to understand from information I've been able to find on line, exactly how it would look & perform in my car. Does anyone have good knowledge of more than one of these and can provide any information as to why one is better than the other or any to avoid, etc and why?
My car is an '06 Avalon Ltd with 6disc JBL & Factory Nav (not touchscreen, but lame joystick).
Wondering if anyone has installed this. Got an '08 Camry with the JBL stereo (no nav) and would like to install this. Anyone got an opinion? I'd also like to install factory sat...how well does this integrate?
Thanks in advance!
I installed a cheaper GROM unit I bought off of ebay...it doesnt have all of the ability of the higher end units but if you dont want to spend so much money it is very good and costs much less.(69.99)....I think if you needed every feature you could just control from the iPOD or get a good headunit that has good iPOD playback features for similar price.
Go with Scoshce or Periphrial. The GROM is ok too but I like the other ones better. If you want factory sat rad you may run into a problem also you may run into a problem with OEM steering wheel controls(unlikely but possible).
I have an 05 toyota tacoma, it has the 6disc changer, not the JBL model. I just got this product(AXIPTA) got the radio out stated hooking up the harness cables. The problem is, the harness supplied there is a 12 pin male that hooks up to the radio(went in fine), then there is a 12 pin female that is to hook up to the factory harnes. I looked all over and cannot find any 12pin on the factory harness to hook up to. I cannot get it to work. Any one else run into this problem? All help is appriciated.
Sounds like your radio is not compatible. I dont think that the tacos are Sat ready until recently. You need a unit like the peripheral PDXP or the usa spe unit

Our kit works just fine with that car. With our kit there is in input port on the radio that our kit plugs into. You can run the kit in either SAT or CDC mode. If you have the indash 6 disc changer you can still use our kit in the CDC mode and it will not interfer at all with the changer. If it is an external changer that will need to be disconected.
The DICE kit will work on 2002-2009 Tacoma trucks. You will have the full control from your radio to be able to brows through ALL of your playlist, artiest and albums.
Our kit comes with an AUX input too so you can hook up other audio devices as well.
