hooking up more speakers

well, some idiot friend in his '88 ford taurus wanted to know if he could add more speakers to his car, so i'm asking (he really just needs a new damn car)

he has 2 in front, and 2 in rear

he wanted to add another 1 or 2 in the rear

could he just split the wire running to each rear speaker into 2?

also, how hard would it be to hook up a 'powered subwoofer'

thanks

He's asking for trouble if he does that though... not to mention it might be a tacky setup
