So I'm really sick of not having my Ipod in my car with me to change songs cause now I feel like I have an Ipod to collect dust. so I want to put my iPod in my car best of both worlds right? but my headunit that came with my car when I bought it pretty bad and has no way of using my Ipod...
so does anyone have any recommendations for a decent or pretty good headunit for maybe under $200 that I can use my Ipod with? thanks.
I just picked up a pioneer DEH-5900IB on ebay for 125 shipped...should be here the end of the week, but add the 30 bucks or so for an ipod cable and you should be good to go

I got a Sony deck for around $130CAD i basically bought it for the aux port! Now i have Subwoofers and the deck performs flawlessly i'd definatly recommend it. Just to note i think i lost a bit of bass with this unit it wasnt the same after it was installed. But its ok now since i have subs.
CircuitCity is your friend! eGay is not!
just had them install a JVC headunit in my girlfriend's car for $99 + free installation and now she always has her iPod on in there
their eqs suck though and they hardly have anti-skip projection... I bought one for my mom's birthday and highs seem to cancel out. only thing you hear is sssss t-t-t-t-t-t you can bearly hear the words. The bass is pretty decent. Some JVC HU's don't do that but I bought that HU at Circuit City $208 installed. It blew out all of the factory speakers in the same day. She drives a Dodge Avenger 2000 bwahh I get leg cramps sitting in that car. I'd go for pioneer, eclipse, clarion, or probably panasonic (their old school) they're high-priced.

thats not the case with my JVC or my girlfriend's JVC
i have stock speakers and it STILL sounds incredible ... i get compliments frequently, actually - people think i have aftermarket speakers all the time
i can crank my volume up to 35+ without blowing speakers ... but normal people listen to it at about 8-12
im probably 100x more of an audiophile than you, IbanezPlayer .... plus i play bass and used to play guitar and piano ... i have a decent ear for range .... if you dont get the cheapest HU they make, JVC is just as good as Pioneer, and both are better than Sony

I actually do have an ear for range..I'm a guitarist/musician myself hence the name.
I might have a cheaper JVC deck cause its definately not the best one you can possibly get..I'm not to happy with it, I bought my car with that head unit in so I have no book for it and can't find out how to do alot of it..why the clock is still 2 hours off. hahaha
I'll check out some other JVC decks though when I go look.
Don't go with any of the cheaper Eclipse decks if you don't like the JVC - JVC is making those for E-skips.
If you are not going to pony up at least $200, I don't think that you can really expect to get a nice sounding deck, do you? Unfortunately you do (generally) get what you pay for.
My2cents.

yes you will lose bass. My stock gen5 deck is had some pretty good boom. Once i installed a higher end panasonic deck thee was a huge difference in bass. But i do have subwoofers but personally i would rather prefer a nice set of speakers over a sub. I dont know i guess my set up isnt really set up for SQ.

I'm selling a Alpine w/ Ipod direct connect,PM if interested.
What you people are hearing is the factory decks usually have an EQ boost in the bass ranges to sound "better". Once that is gone the music sounds more "flat", but usually more correct. Small speakers shouldn't try to reproduce sub-bass anyways, that's why they boost the mid-bass in the factory setup to try and fool your ear.
Go through Crutchfield.com and figure out what deck meets your needs. Then go buy it off e-bay from a large official STORE, not an individual or shady business. You should be able to get a warranty and everything if they are a authorized retailer.
