Feedback please...Kenwood DNX7100

Hello,

Looking to purchase a HU for my Tacoma....wanted something with Navi and DVD capability (for movies). I've done some research but was unclear if the Kenwood DNX7100 has voice prompting directions or not?

Also, looks like the maps are built into the unit. Can they be updated? It doesn't look like it from what I read on bestbuy.com....

Anyone with this unit, or know about it please let me know.

Or if you can suggest something equivalent in that price range ($1200 or so) I'd appreciate it.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Kris

I currently have the DDX-6019 paired with the KNA-g510 which is the nav unit already built into the DNX-7100. What I can tell you is that this navigation is built by Garmin which is arguably the best navigation manufacturer on the market. After using the navigation, I hardly ever had any issue with it. No navigation is completely perfect but I definitely can say I enjoyed the Kenwood's navigation. There are voice prompts of course. What navigation doesn't have voice prompts these days. Also the maps can be updated via SD card.

The user interface on the Kenwood DVD headunits have been known to take some getting used to. I can actually sell you my Kenwood DDX-6019 headunit and the KNA-G510 nav unit. PM me if interested.

I wanted to take back my OG post about the voice prompts on the 7100 it does offer voice prompts and text to speech. what it does not give you is the ability to say voice comands. i had the DDX6019 and KNA-G510 and loved it. I have since upgraded to a newer Kenwood still using the G510
