those are 2 totally different subs

are you set on a w7 or do you just want to be louder than him?

what is his install like?

i want clean crisp sound.. that will beat him haha.. and like also wanna knock harder.. if possible.. haha (or at least wanna knwo if the W7z will knock harder) ;']] but mainly crisp clean sound is ok for me.. because i would rather listening to music with lyrics and all the right sound than have jes bump

you should be able to beat him with a w7 if your install is good and you have decent power. what is your budget? instead of one w7 you might wanna consider a pair of 12A's which have comparable sq but can easily get much louder than a single L7.

http://www.edesignaudio.com/miva/mer...egory_Code=ASD

or a pair of XXX's from www.respl.com

and dont get me wrong, the w7 is an amazing speaker, but if you really wanna blow him away then a pair of less expensive subs with similiar qualities as the w7 may be a better choice.

if you want louder, the 12w7 is probably not the sub for you vs. the 12L7. but if you want clearer and more accurate, then get the 12w7.

Agreed, the Kicker 12L7 will be louder than the JL 12W7. However, that's not to take anything away from a 12W7 properly fitted in a slot-ported box. We had put one of those in a '02 Civic SI hatchback for testing purposes to show the customer how a properly designed & built box sounded like. The roof of the Civic was vibrating, and it was much louder than his 2 10" Audiobahn subs in a sealed box.

The problem is your sony amp!! SOny is OVERRATTED, get a Kicker amp to match your setup

It's not just the amp though, it's proper box design. I went through 3 or 4 boxes and positions in my trunk before i hit that high a number.

disclaimer: the following is my personal opinion based on my personal experiences with both of these subs. Take it for what it's worth as it may be worth exactly what you paid for it!

No offense meant to those that have and love their L7's however if someone gave me a pair of L7's I wouldn't even use them as stands to hold up the cabinets with the W7's! Just kidding, I actually think the square shape would make excellent stands for speaker cabinets!
Seriously though, if you just want to make some noise and impress your friends with how loud it is get the L7's and put them in a big ol' ported enclosure with a ton of power. If you want something that actually sounds good while beating your brains in get the W7's and install them properly.
As mentioned, just my opinion but that's what you asked for.

That's exactly what i had them for. I was doing SPL competiton with it, so the square design gave me more pushable surface area Vs. the round ones.
