Keeping stock HU

Adding some equipment to my 08 Tacoma Double Cab:

Alpine PDX- 4.100
Alpine PDX-1.600
CDT Seperates in front
CDT Coaxils in rear (I know, but I have passengers all the time)
2 eD 11kv.2 10" subs
and Rammat and Ensolite all over

Keeping the factory HU for now, so I will be adding a 4 channel LOC. The directions always say to put these at the headunit but in the past I have tapped them off of the rear channel speaker wires and mounted the LOC to the sub box so that I can avoid opening up the dash area. Does anyone else do this? Are there any problems with doing it this way or should I go ahead and pull the HU? I have the SCOSCHE 4 channel adjustable LOC.

I will be taking the truck apart to install sound deadener, but just hate even thinking about pulling the dash area apart since I am not changing HUs.
