I am looking to replace my car stereo (head unit). However, what I really want is a good reciever with CD player, channel presets, scan button, seek button, and a simple dial for volume.

The problem is I am having a hard time finding car stereos with all this on the dash, specifically the scan and seek buttons.
Most require you to flip through menus. Someone told me that these are on a remote control that comes with the receiver. I have a hard time believing a remote control is necessary in a car (or even safe - same goes for flipping through menus).

Please post if you recommend a brand and model that might have these features, and puts out quality sound?

Thanks

Actually you'll love the remote. I think it provides more safety because you don't have to look at the head unit once you memorize the remote. That's one feature I would definitely get.

Crutchfield is a good place to start your search if you haven't checked them already. You can sort by feature and by the receivers that will fit your vehicle. Crutchfield tends to be a little bit more expensive than other online retailers but their tech support and customer service can't be beat.

Here's a nice Sony with seek buttons on the front: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=300&i=158GT320&tp=5684&tab=detailed_in fo

I'll second the remote idea.

Here is my Alpine remote. You can seek or scan with the round button.

Here is my Alpine 7840. Volume knob can be seen. Presets are below the display. Searching is done with the bottons on the top left and top right of the volume knob.

I have an Alpine CDA-9887 and it has all of the features you are looking for, and much more. I don't know about other brands, but I think all Alpine head units have the scan, skip, channel presets for radio, and a large volume knob. All of the main controls are well laid out for the user. Check Alpine out and see for yourself. They are also one of the top car audio brand too.
