i currently have a clarion navi system and a powered sub.both of which i installed myself. im looking to put in a 4 channel amp and compenents in front with 6x9s in the rear. how much is involved in installing this? is this more than the average DIYer can do? i know very little about amps and wiring but love DIY projects and am a fast learner. and i HATE letting someone else do it knowing they could probably care less about the job. i just dont want to fuck up my car.
is there a good website with some write ups to help me understand amp installation as a whole? i.e. whats going on inside of amps. crossover explanation, db level explanation etc.. i need a good audio education..

i did it all by myself just by reading up online and getting recommendations just like you are doing..
like touringcamry said, if you were able to hook up your HU and the powered sub on your own, setting up an amp and components wont be that much harder.
basically its running power wire from battery to amp, remote turn on from +12v switched to amp, RCA's from HU to amp. new speaker wire from components to crossovers to amp.
for the components, i would recommend getting baffles made for the speakers. im assuming you are looking at a set of 6.5" comps. MrMarv on here makes all types of baffles. he made mine and they fit perfectly, and it makes installation a cinch. any other questions u know we are here
The Camry is a car that I can rip out someone's pride, stab it, beat it, and completely bash their egos, and it's so ridiculous that the person comes back with a hysterical laugh... ROFL They got trainlengthed by a Camry that in their mind, was a 18 sec car.
oh wow those baffles are nice! def worth 40! how do you like that tweeter placement? i was thinking of putting them in the pillar. also any component speaker recommendations? ideally i wanna get the polk audio signature series sr6500 but dont know if i can shell out 450 just for the speakers..
IMO the tweeter placement is amazing. people can argue that its better to put the tweeter up higher like u said in the A pillar but it is all subjective to the listeners preference. i have had my tweeters in the A pillars, the door panel and now next to the woofer and this setup has the best SQ by far. it may also be subjective to the type of component set, how much power you are giving the set, and your cars interior, and the type of tweeter(metal or silk). the best way to figure out what is best for you is to use double sided tape and put it in different areas and see what sounds best to you.
also, in the pillar i dont know if there would be issues with the airbag. i didnt have A pillar airbags in my old cam so the tweeters were ok there..
on component recommendations, i can only personally vouch for my set, which are diamond audio. very good SQ, midbass is lacking a bit but that was cured by messing with the crossover settings. it could also due to power requirements(im only giving them ~75w rms when they ask for 125w rms). i would stick to the mainstream brands like alpine, eclipse, pioneer since you are just starting out.
thanks soo hoo you always come through with good info. and yea i think i read somewhere that the closer the tweeter is to your mid the better sq and imaging your gonna get... pmed mr marv..
I really like the Arc Audio 6000 and some kind of Focal component speakers (I only remember it had a yellow cone on the mid) I saw at a store. I'm fairly certain those go for less than $450 like your Polks and they sound really good. They can be a bit hard to find though since they are not mainstream brands. Arc Audio's web site hasn't been updated in a long long time so it's very out of date.
Metallic and silk tweeters definitely sound different and it is personal preference which sounds better. Metallic sounds sharper and silk is smoother. I had some Polk db6750 and they were really sharp - sometimes to where it was irritating. I tested some MB Quart and thought they were very sharp also. Again it's personal preference.
