Can the stock deck handle subs?

I wanna pick up some subs cause I love bass , I have a 2001 Camry LE, I was wondering if the stock deck can handle a set of subs, or would I have to change it to a higher wattage deck? thanks

6 words,

1) Amp
2) capacitor
3) New speakers and tweeters

A new deck alone isn't gonna be enough to give you the bass you crave. It's not a bad investment, but what you really need is an auxillary amp to supply the sups with the pwr it needs.

This is what you should be looking into;

a deck could barely even move a sub. start out by getting a sub and amp. a new head unit is a must too.

if you have good components, a deck wouldn't really even make those come to life let alone a "set" of subs...

and a cap isn't the best idea if you can avoid it

a stock deck cant handle the subs alone....u need an amp first of all..... i recently added an amp and a 10' to my stock radio in my 98 camry, it works fine....only thing is i had to connect my memory amp wire to my cig lighter wire cause i couldnt find a memory wire that works comming from the stock radio....but it works great....plus i dont have any "window shoppers" for a new aftermarket radio.

real help

Hey there, first of all, you can still use your toyta cd/tape deck to power your subs. What you need is a simple 2 channel amp with a built in low pass crossover to filter out the frequencies the sub shouldnt be getting. Once the amp is wired up to the subs, you need to worry about signal input. A easy way to get the signal from the factory speaker wires into the new amp is to either get a line-level converter, or many amps now have high level inputs(speaker wire inputs). This should give you enough signal to run the amp as long as you turn the lowpass crossover on. After this, if u still want to get better bass, then you can change the head unit out to something that has pre-ampoutputs with good voltage on them, eg 4V+ is good.

With a comment like that I would almost have to say you dont deserve bass... not to be mean but.. honestly, do u think a deck could possibly power a sub+speakers? not likely.. "think before you write"

what is that supposed to mean??? do you even know what you talking about?
capacitors have a purpose...they arnt the best idea if you arnt using them correctly.
they are used to create a more constant pull between the alternator(constant output) and the amp(which has fluctuating draw) caps discharge faster than batteries and are designed for this...if you dont have one, you are slowly damaging your charging system

whoever told you caps are worthless is a moron

**sorry i know this is off topic**

about the topic tho....
in my opinion
get a lower end eclipse head...you wont be dissappointed
get a mono amp with 4-500 watts, two reasonable 12's or 10's
(dont get JL if you are just looking for some boom, you pay a lot for the name)
and as for the door speakers its weather you think they sound good or not

sorry to bust your bubble but a cap is a band aid, for about 5 seconds

once again, two year old thread. But I would agree with eddie, unless your capacitor can hold loads of power and the amp(s) use(s) relatively little.

to both of you....a capacitor does not do anything for an install with an insufficient charging system...
what is so hard to understand about this?
a capacitor doesnt GIVE any more power than what your battery and alternator can supply...so it doesnt help if you dont have enough power to begin with.
It allows the amps to access bursts of power(which is how they operate) at a faster rate than a battery can give. this in turn levels out the battery side voltage

Im not saying you have to have a cap
all im saying is its a good investment if you want to prolong the life of your battery and alternator

where people get the bad idea about caps are these shops that try to use it as a bandaid...its not going to fix a crappy charging system
