which is stock in my new '03 Corolla has just gotta go! Any recommendations on what audio system to put into it that's reasonably affordable and sounds decent at least?!

Infinity speakers are great. You can't go wrong with them and their prices are pretty decent too. It would be best to go with Infinity Reference speakers all around (pretty good SQ, low cost) and a 4 channel amp for them. Then perhaps you'd want to put a sub and a mono amp for it in the trunk. I'd need more info on what you want to recommend anything else.
