89 Corolla, Kenwood KDC-MP635, sound stopped
I installed my wifes christmas present a bit early for her, mainly because I had a feeling I'd run into some problems with her car. Luckily, I was right and I managed to get everything in order after 6 trips to best buy and arguing with the people there about various things related to the stereos themselves. Namely, she wants to listen to her Zune in the car while driving and the 3 stereos I went through before settling on this one all had a seperate Aux In part needed although they said they had Aux in built in on the sticker. Needless to say, this one did as well, but I got the part for free really, so it worked out just fine.
Last night, I installed the stereo, all went well except for the fact that it was a tight fit with the wires and such on her little car. All the same, I managed to get it installed, all the wires spliced properly, everything done as I've done it in the past for other vehicles. All in all, it was a piece of cake beyond fitting the wires in and the stereo and hiding the connector for the stereos aux in. I took the car around the block a few times, took it to the gas station, did the same stuff I've always done, namely aiming for some speed bumps to make sure nothing was loose. All was well, after a half hour of driving after speed bumps and pot holes. She left this morning, all was well then, I checked since she had problems putting the faceplate back on.
She called me around 10:30, her lunch break, and told me that the speakers stopped working, but the head unit still responds. This confused me a bit since the speakers run through 2 seperate portions of the harness, 1 controls (if i remember right) the rear, the other controls the front and all the power and other related connections. So far, I cant find anything anywhere about this problem. I'm at a complete loss. I work late tonight so I cant drive out there now to check it out and see if I can figure it out, but I figure maybe someone here knows something about it that I dont.
Basic info on the car, its an 89 Corolla, nothing special, with cheap after market speakers and it had a cheap stereo before I put this one in. There is one major problem with the car itself. The previous owner did something stupid to the electrical system and shorted a line somewhere. The Cig Lighter, Dome Light and Ash Tray Light dont work anymore. All the fuses are fine in the car. I'll be checking them again tonight, but I get the feeling they'll be fine again.
Anyone have any ideas on what could cause it, and what could possibly fix it?
Thanks in advance,
-John
