Keyless entry

This may sound like a stupid question but is it possible to install a aftermarket keyless entry system on a 2000 Camry LE? If so, how difficult or what is involved?

Thanks for any inputs.

Sure it is possible. Why not a full alarm system, which includes keyless entry? If you aren't afraid of attaching alarm wires to specific wires in the car and understand negative & positive triggers, then all you need is a wiring identification sheet.

Thanks,Luc for your reply.

I am assuming I will need to dismantle the door to get to the wires and then solder them, right?

By the way, does installing a full alarm system void the manufacturer's warranty if this is a new vehicle?

You will NOT have to dismantle the driver's door to get to the lock/unlock wires. All the wires are located around the driver's foot/kick panel area. Main ones like 12V, accessory, and ignition are located inside the steering column. Solder is always the best, but not necessary. As long as you can strip a small piece of the sleeve off, wire tie it, and secure it with electrical tape, you are fine.

Adding an alarm will NOT void your warranty. Search for the Magnuson-Moss act, and use that for the dealer if they ever give you any troubles.

I'd tell ya to come up to our store to have it installed, but it's probably too far of a drive.

I don't suggest twisting wires together then electrical taping it, otherwise known as rigging.

Either solder and heatshrink / electrical tape or use crimp connectors.

True, solder & heat sink is always the best. But when you try to do that to 12-gauge wires like the starter, ignition(s), 12V('s), and accessory under the steering column with limited space sometimes, it does get tough. That calls for a blow torch.
