Help! Ipod connection to Pioneer DEH-P880PRS?

Hi folks,

Sorry for yet another Ipod hookup question, but I can't figure this out. I am thinking of buying a Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS head unit for my 2008 Tacoma. See this site for specifics: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...H-P880PRS.html

I know you can get the Pioneer CD-IB100II IP-bus adaptor that will allow you to control the Ipod from the head unit, but don't want to do this for 2 reasons: 1. I'd rather control directly from the Ipod, and 2. The reviews on this adaptor are terrible. Apparently it is intolerably slow and barely displays any information about the song (8 digits and sometimes not even that). I don't want to have this installed and then just be disappointed.

Instead, I could use a simple cable with a round 1/8" male plug that goes into the Ipod and a 1/8" round male plug that goes into the aux jack at the front of the head unit, but then I'll have a wire right in front of my stereo that gives an unclean look and plus I would have to have another wire to my 12v jack to recharge my Ipod, right?

What I'd like to do is use the little shelf in the Scosche dash kit to put my Ipod on and just run a cable from the back of the unit into this little shelf area, if I can find a way to do that will also charge my Ipod. I was looking at this Pioneer UB100 USB cable:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+CD-UB100.html
But that seems like a lot of hardware to have to install and would I get good Ipod performance and also charging with this cable?

Are there any stereo experts out there who have actually read this far (sorry for long post) and have any advice? Am I missing any simple alternatives? Thanks!!!

pretty much you win some and lose some. you cant have em all. but i would just go with the I bu adapter just the fact that one you plug in the iPod and stash it somewhere you dont need to worry about taking it out unless your updating the songs. just my .2 cent

On my old Deck the DEH-P980BT
I had the IBus adaptor and it was a little slow...

But your Ipod Charges... and you can work all funtions from your deck and search for songs. I thought it was easy to use.

The New decks do not need the ibus just an adaptor cord that plugs intot eh back...

My New deck has the ipod hook up directly to the deck and works much better. DEH -p790BT

I have an extra Ibus with ipod hookups that i removed before i sold my old vehicle... I think i used it on One trip... otherwise the Ipod stayed in my Wifes car.. (she has a longer communte. Mine is only 3miles to work. if you are interested in it let me know...

PM me or send me an email with an offer.

Thanks guys! I ended up buying the head unit on ebay with the IP bus adaptor included (both used for one month) at a pretty cheap price, less than I expected to pay for the head unit alone. So I will try it out and see if I like it. But I'd still be interested in alternative solutions if anybody knows any, in case the IP bus adaptor doesn't work out. Thanks.
