Ok, I have an 08 Camry LE and my question is will any aftermarket alarm/remote start combo allow the following funcionality:
What I want to do is to be able to leave the car running, remove the key, lock the door, come back to vehicle, unlock door, insert key and drive away. My reasoning is for this is that I use my vehicle for work and I go to people's houses for 2-3 min and I want to be able to leave the car running, but not have someone come steal it.
Does anyone with knowledge of remote starts know if this is a possibility? How do cops leave their cars running when they patrol and leave their vehicles. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
most aftermarket systems have it it is called Shot stop or quick stop. You would pobably prefer a system that has turbo timer that way all you have to do is engage the e-brake and the car would run for a preset amount of time my compustar can do it for 1,2 or 4 minutes. If i dont want turbo to engage I can either not engage the parking brake or I can turn the feature on/off from my remote
My DEI alarms all did that. What you do is put it into park. Then you hit the remote start button. Since it allready knows it's started, you just pull out the key and it keeps power to the right wires. Then when you get back in, put the key in before you hit the brake peddal or it will kill the engine.

As others wrote, DEI alarms can do this, but I do NOT recommend you doing this at all. The gas you burnt (and CO2 you release) keeping the engine running for anything longer than 10 seconds is more than what it takes to start it. Now you're taking about 2-3 mins? Just shut the darn thing off! Toyotas can withstand the extra stop-start cycles.
OK, the tree hugger in me has spoken.

i would like to believe he wasn't thinking about the co2 gas and rather on the wear and tear of the engine starting on and off.
