radio issues

i put this in the xA forum too but i thought i'd put it here too since that forum doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic. i have an '04 xA with a couple radio issues.

it has the 6-disc changer, and lately has been giving the "Error 3" and "Error 4" messages, which after looking around on the net seems to mean replace the head unit. most of the stuff i found online though was old posts from awhile back and people were getting them replaced under warranty (which is long past on this car)

the other issue is i just had an xM tuner put in the car, one of the xpress rC color screen units. it is hooked up to play through an fm modulator, but recently the xm tuner comes on, but there is no sound coming through the radio. other fm stations work fine.

for awhile, it seemed that turning the car off and back on solved both of the problems. but now the satellite isn't coming through at all, and the cd changer still jams up and throws those error messages. would you suspect both of these issues resides in the head unit going out? or are they two seperate deals altogether and both the head unit and possibly the fm modulator thing is bad?

i dont know about the codes but it seems to me that your fm modulator would be out since the head unit works fine on the other stations...is it wireless fm modulation or is it hooked directly into the antenna wire? if it is wireless it usually requires replacing the xm unit, if it is wired to the antenna then you can just replace the modulator piece.....

i'm not sure if it's wired or not - i let best buy install it. but i'll be replacing the head unit this weekend and if the xm still doesn't work, i'll let them put in a new one for free.

ugh, it sure is annoying. haven't even had the stupid xm in the car a month!

if you didnt buy any extra parts for them to install then it probably is wireless....it should have the one year manufacturer warranty though if you didnt buy the extended warranty from bestbuy....
