Nope and nope. The shop did the install.

Mr Marv, I did not know that, I'll start looking into speakers with crossovers.

Would you guys recommend that I also reground the HU to the my car's chassis and upgrade the speaker housing to something, say constructed from MDF?

How important is it to have an airtight seal around the area where the speaker is installed?

I'll have to agree with WhiteRabbit that it would be beneficial to SQ. Are you having noise issues or dimming/blinking with the headunit? If not I don't see any reason to worry about the ground. BTW, the article below concerning clipping is chock full of myths and inaccuracies.

Just finished reading it.... it's definitely helped address a few of my questions and concerns regarding clipping despite getting into some technicalities and terms which were a bit unfamiliar to me.

I was thinking of regrounding the entire car as well, since my headlights tend to dim a bit when using my power windows. I just thought it would also help provide a more stable current to the HU to power the speakers.

I made sure to never crank the speakers to the point of distortion for the fear they might blow. They were always at a comfortable listening level. What happened happened. Now I guess the only thing I can do is to check the physical installation of the speakers, might check to see if everything was screwed down tight.

I was looking at these as possible replacements, what are your thoughts on them?

Just finished watching it and wow! There's a ton of helpful information

A ton of information in there, and on another note.... oddly, my driver side speaker is working normally again, not that I'm complaining

I took a closer look and a few of the door clips seem to be broken and causing the rattling which I'm hearing in the doors so I'll have to get those replaced once it's nicer out. (Currently in the middle of a big snowstorm ) It must have been a loose connection that just happened to fix itself over time.

Thank goodness I don't have to shell out for new speakers, I'm breathing a big sigh of relief

Thanks for all the helpful responses!
