Since it hadn't been busy at work lately, this was one of my projects that I had wanted to do for a while. Here is a fiberglassed subbox for a 12"er, fits in the driver's side corner area in the trunk of a Gen3.
I used a Kicker to fill it:
Here is a JL 12W6v2 in there:
I had a JL 12W3v2 in there at first, and compared to how it sounded to the Kicker 12" Comp, the JL sounded much better. I didn't wire up the W6v2, but just for fitment purposes. I may add some dynamat inside to reduce the resonant frequency.
That W6 is gonna blow up that enclosure! You'd better reinforce it
Please tell me you made a mold of the enclosure so you can duplicate it when Ekam and everyother Gen3 owner asks you to make them one. Now start making one for my Gen4
I didn't measure the volume specifically. It was more of an estimate, to be around 1 cu ft, may be a bit more. Most subs can work within that space, so I wasn't too worried about actual measurement. The more important considerations were to make sure it didn't block the trunk hinge and to maximize the "dead" space there.
I didn't take pictures of the step-by-step process, but I will do so next time. Then, the write-up will make more sense with pictures.
Those wood pieces are there to support the speaker ring. Also, it doubles as structural support for the sub.

Foo! That's Howard, our wonderful test engineer that makes the faces. I actually do some work when I am there.

I have some ideas to secure the box, but I'll wait until it is almost done. I don't like the idea of making a hole in the fiberglass only because of the possibility of not having a complete seal.
BTW, here is a picture of the 12W7 in a slot-ported box that was flexing the roof of a customer's '02 Civic SI hatchback.
Sup Phi and Dickson. I'm still around, just not online as much anymore. These days I spend less time with my car and more time playing Holdem poker. If I am not reading poker books, I am playing poker. I've been on a hot streak so far and want to see how far this poker thing can take me. TTYL
