Question 98 Camry ECU (RS3000) programming

I have searched a number of areas and found most of the answers I am looking for but... From what I understand there is a button that is to be pushed on the ECU to begin the program mode (to program extra remotes). I have located what I believe to be the ecu behind the kick panel (driver's side). It is wire tied. From what I can determine it has ecu printed on it but it appears to have lass breakage sensor information printed on it as well. I see only one bundle of wires pluged in to it (top side) and it appears there is a recessed area, possible metal in the center (bottom side). I can't quiet get a clear view of the bottom to see if there is a button to push. I plan to get a mirror to try to get a better view.

I had previously called the dealer to inquire of the location of the ecu. I told the service advisor I thought there was a program switvh on the unit to start the program procedure. He advised the unit had to be programmed with a scanner...

Finally I will get to the question...

Was there a cut off production date where they changed the rs3000 where they combined the ecu and glass break sensor and removed the programming capability from the user, requiring dealer involvment or is the dealer just trying to get more of my money?

Thanks in advance.

My mistake. I apologize. I just assumed since it was related to the alarm system it went under the security area.

Anyone know how to go about moving it or do I need to retype the inqury?

ECU in 98 Camry

Sorry to join this thread out of order, but was wondering if anyone can identify the ECU unit behind the dash (left of steering wheel) in my 09 Camry LE? I've been struggling for a week to find it to re-program my new remote lock clicker.

TIA

Alan

I, too, have found the ecu location to be on the driver's side - kick panel. I could only see wires, too. But I was at the dealership today (Jay Wolfe Toyota, Ballwin, MO) and they printed out instructions for me and there is a cut-off year. I believe 1999 is the last year for programming it yourself. After that year, you MUST go to the dealer, but prior to 2000 - you can do it yourself.

I'm frustrated because the instructions are so simple, but I can't find that button either. I am getting ready to call them and ask a service person. I will let you know if I find anything out.
