Sound not coming from speakers when DVD is on

We just bought a 2005 Toy Sequoia Limited with an Audiovon DVD players and tv screens. We put a DVD in and it plays but no sound comes out of the speakers, even when the "DVD speaker" switch is on. We can hear the radio so I assume it's not a speaker problem...wonder if any one can give me some troubleshooting ideas before I have to take it somewhere to get it working. We also have wireless speakers, but cannot find the wireless adapter (please bear with me I am female and may not explain this properly

Thanks in advance!

Does your manual say anything about this?

i would think that it being factory installed it probably comes through and auxilary channel on your stereo which should play it out your door speakers....is the stereo turned to the aux or dvd selection rather than the cd or radio??

chances are that the sound from the dvd player is modulated to an fm stereo channel. turn the dvd switch on and then try scanning the fm dial. the station should probably be in the lower channels. something like 87.9, 88.1, and so on.
