Okay so at the TN BBQ I sat in Phi's bass pumping pimping thumping Camry....
Now i wanna do something so where do I start?
I'm thinking I need first a head unit, then nice speakers and a sub. thing is I have a sub not sure what brand or what size but it's sitting in my hatch :p
I'm not really after BIG BIG sound just something with more richness
Get a good deck first, like Alpine or Pioneer (like I've got). Then, upgrade all 4 speakers with a 4-channel amp, preferably with components in the front. I've got a Pioneer deck with 2 MTX Thunder 6000 12s and a MTX 421D amp. My next upgrade will be Kenwood Exceleon 6.75" components in the front doors hooked up to an older MTX RT2200 amp.

but you probably think you won't be a victim and you say "just once, it can't hurt". so you start off with a decent head unit and replace all your stock speakers. and yes, that keeps you happy for awhile. then you start twitching again... wanting more. you sell your original Star Wars toys and My Little Pony collection just so you can buy a 4-channel amp and some subs. this calms your nerves and are content living in your audio bliss. but then you notice that you're not distracted with enough stuff while you're driving, and just concentrating on the road while you're driving is boring.... and you start to wonder how to get video in your car... and so on and so on.

it's a sad tale. don't become a statistic.
just say no to car audio.
Hi. My name is The Wolf, and I'm a car audio addict. I started 3 years ago with a simple goal: to get a CD player and, once I started burning CDs, a changer. With this goal accomplished, I decided that a little more wouldn't hurt, so I got 2 12s, built a box, got an amp. But I wanted MORE, MORE, MORE..... you get the idea. I've invested far too much of my life in car audio.... Once you get started, it's impossible to quit!!!! I've got a CD player with matching 12s and an amp, and I still want MORE... *eyes those Kenwood Exceleon 6.75" components on Ebay*.....

^ Hi, my name is Phi. My ears ring and I'm addicted to base and spent the kids college money to feed my love of SPL! speak on brotha!!
If you insist on sampling the devils frequency, get a new headunit with at least 3 pre-outs so that you can separate your highs and lows. From there, the choices are endless. Pick one or combination of the below
-small amp and sub for more boom
-upgrade interior speakers
-4 channel amp
-equalizers and processors
-get another job to pay for addiction
You can start with a reciever amp and 2 subs between 10 - 15 in. I'm not rich so like the best stuff but i will cut corners. Your car is new so the stock speakers are pretty good. No need to buy new speakers most of the speakers on the market suck. The stock speakers now are made better then the aftermarket crap. But if you must buy speakers go kenwood or alpine. No doubt the best two component sets out.
The amps I like are the Pyle. Why? Cheap and they push. Get Pyle amps 1000 watts or more cause the subs i recommend will surely shake the block. The amps also have the remote control. You can adjust the bass with a cool knob. (girls like to play wit the knob) The amps also have a built in equilizer. Which saves u even more cash. Takes a week to really adjust it to a permenant setting. (play all kinds of music to adjust).
Last but not least the subs. Do not think about nothin else but Audiobahn or Kenwood. These are the ultimate subs. When i had only one 10 in. kenwood sub it out performed 2 sony 12in explods If you want clean solid bass with no rattle and good power. Kenwood and Audiobahn are the way to go. If you wanna go deaf and let the people outside dance audiobahn and kenwood are the sh*&! But if you got the cash go audiobahn. Top of the top peformance subs. Don't just take my word for it. Go to (www.justaudiobahn.com) compare the sub frequency range; dhb; and rms. You will see the facts then experience it for yourself
finese1, kenwood or alpine are not the best, just because they are the brands that you have used it does not necessarily they are the best.stock speakers are good as they are matched with the right power output, which is quite low. when you put in new aftermarket speakers, you have a speaker which has a higher power rating, and as your stock system does not put out enough to satisfy this, you end up with crappy sound. thats why you get new speakers and get the amp that is suitable for them. alpine is good but have you tried eclipse, so far for me i find that alpine is a bit to overrated and their prices are a bit more due to their brand image.
pyle amps i have never heard of, we don't get it down here, but buying an amp is just more than goin out and getting the cheapest. check the features of each, their components & quality.
subs, sony explod are not worth their price , they perform poorly and shouldn't be an option. audiobahn is good, very good but the price is quite up there to. Kenwood i haven't heard of but to me your specifying subs from different price ranges. and by no means are kenwood or audiobahn the ultimate subs, what about focal, exlipse, clarion (ask rayray what he thinks of his), Rockford, JL, Cerwin Vega, etc etc, there is not one ultimate sub, and the brands i mentioned will out perform the kenwood by far.
Bensa, the best thing you should do is set your desired audio system level (basic, spl, sq, high end etc) and then set how much you will spend on each component. after that head to a few audio stores and sample what they have to offer in that price range(try not to sample things a bit more as you might like them more and end up spending more than you set out to...personal experience ) your system will be heard by you so check them out yourself and determine yourself what you believe sound good. everyones ears are different...
sorry for the long post, had to clear up a few details...

Da_Horse ur right these are my opinions. But what i deal wit is high quality. If you want stats Kenwood, Alpine,Audiobahn and Vega(over priced) subs and component has the highest db ratings(93) which is the best on the market. Db- is the clearity in bass. They also have the widest frequency response. Frequency response determines they high and low sounds played in a speaker. The wider the range is the better.
The stock speakers you get with a fairly new car usually has some of the best speakers on the market. ex. Polk, Infinity, Bose. If you are stupid enough to change Bose speakers to anything else on the market then you just wasted money. Thats why you always change your reciever, get an amp and subs before you do anything else. Hear how ur factory speaker first, if you want to change go ahead. Putting speakers in your car is not 123. Its more like 123456789...... Its fun and cool to hook up a system, but don't go wit popular demand cause when you hear something better you will be upset.
finese1, i realise you are an audio nut, and i myself am one too, i too have a few quality components in my car. i understand that most cars these days do have quite good stock speakers, but if you have got a premium sound system as stock there is usually little reason to upgrade, unless your an audio nut hahaha. when you say stock i thought of my car (89camry) and it had shitass speakers, as do some of the later model camrys/cars. so probably lack of insight on my behalf.
i know all that your talking about, dB, freq etc, i've been through that stuff...i've spent all my money on my car audio, and i've been doing that for approx years so i'm no car audio newb...i know that installing car audio isn't easy, but it also depends what your ultimate objective is....and i agree with u about popular demand...
Focal uptia? I never heard of them. If i could get my hands on something wit 97db that would be hot. But whats it's rms, peak, and frequency range? If it is all good where can i order, cause i wanna be the first in the states wit those.
And you did bring a good point about the stock system. But i'm just talking about new cars 97 and up. I should have been more specific.
they are quite expensive tho, but well worth your money, they aren;'t spl but sq based....i think you wouldn't be the first to get them tho....been around a while now...
