Exclamation Installed aftermarket HU in 08 Corolla, now dash has ticking/clicking noise on bumps

I installed an aftermarket stereo into my 2008 Corolla about a month ago. Ever since, when I drive on a bumpy road or uneven pavement, there is a distinct faint clicking noise that happens from around the head unit area. I can drown it out with the stereo if I turn it up loud enough, but at moderate hearing, you can still hear a slight tapping noise. It sounds like a computer mouse click and the rate which it clicks varies depending on how fast/how bumpy the road is.

Any ideas on what I should check? I took apart the center console again and made sure all the clips were in place and they were.

There's a chance I might have over-tightened the bolts on the stereo/air vent assembly when I placed it back into the console cavity. Would that cause the tapping/clicking sound when I drive on a bumpy road?

Also, I didn't trim down the wires of the aftermarket wiring harness. Do you think it might have gotten caught on something and is banging against it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
driving90

try putting pressure at different locations when you hear the tick. if the sound goes away, that area is your culprit. once you find where it is coming from, see if you can use some foam or sound dampening material to quiet it. what is most likely is is just poor fitment from the aftermarket kit..
