Factory deck swap

I've got a 93 4Runner. There's CD/Tape deck in there currently model# 56804. It does not play or eject CDs and the LCD does not work. I am looking for a replacement. I found 1 from an old Supra but the model# is 16804. It looks identical. Is there some way of finding out if these are compatible? Is there somewhere I can reference to find out if other models will function in my 4Runner? Any help would be fantastic!!

As long as you don't have the "upgraded" sound system with external amp, the upgrade is fairly simple. If you do have an external amp, it's a bit more complex because you may have to find the exact same HU.

Your choices now are to find another Toyota regular size double-DIN HU or aftermarket. Pretty much any unit made around 1990 to 2002 or so should work. Starting around 2002 and later, Toyota started making HUs with faces that were different for each car so those won't work.

If you have the basic sound system, look at the jack on the back where it connected to your car. It must match on the new one. Upgraded systems have different plugs so be aware of that.

I do have the upgraded system with 7 speakers and I'm certain there's an external amp behind the deck.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this ebay auction which states the deck contains an internal amp and I can eliminate the use of my external amp?
