Gen5 Designing a new sub system

i'm plannin a project, and lets say that money wont be an issue. i'm deciding between 2 subwoofer system setups.

1) a single JL Audio 12W7 in a sealed box powered with 900-1000W RMS

2) a pair of JL 12W1v2 subs in a sealed box, powered with 600W RMS total

i'm assuming the 12W7 will have better SQ, but which setup will put out more dB's? i've seen videos of W7's pushed hard, and man, they have lots of excursion! then again, its just videos.

or will a pair of subs always put out more dB's than just one?

Go to a dealer and listen to them to see which setup you like better.

the 12w1's will probably have a little better SQ in that thier cone doesnt extend as far as the w7 and therefore is capable of hitting bass notes quicker and clearer (such as double bass)....that being said the w7 will probably have more spl and a higher db reading, one properly tuned could get into the upper 130's low 140's db range where the two w1's would be in the upper 120's low 130's db range....just my .02......

if you want good SQ, then i suggest going with the W6, get an JL 13w6v2 if you want more bass and sq, The w7 will give got lot of SPL. I have owned A couple of W7 but alway come back with the W6, they sound way nicer and dun need a super big box and is not power hungry

"All else being equal" two subs would be louder than the exact same single sub however you are comparing two entirely different animals. There is no way to predict exact output (too many other variables) but you could use one of the programs available to get an idea of which would be louder. In any case if "money won't be an issue" this comparison is kinda like asking if you'd rather have 2 of these.....

or 1 of these ....

Almost forgot, personally I would get the 12W7 since it has far better SQ than a W1 with the ability to get crazy loud on 1000 watts

if you want SQ go with sealed box.. if you want Dbs go with ported box.. you win some and lose some, cant have em all.
