push and pull effect

when your putting subs in a enclosure what is meant by putting the subs in a push and effect pull what are the advantages of doing this and aslo what are the disadvantages????

Basically, it's 2 subs wired out of phase, while one pushes, the other one pulls. The advantage is that you only use an enclosure built for a single sub, and you may get the volume output of two speakers. Disadvantage is that you aren't getting the full output from both speakers.
