3rd Generation Some good car audio equipment...

What's the next best thing besides JL Audio their out of my budget? I have Pioneer Premier, but I'm changing my mind to something else and I don't know what to pick. I had Alpine subwoofers, but I used them for a week and sold them. I was thinking about Elemental Design but most of their stuff is pretty much custom made. I trying to save up for Summer School so I'd say $700-$1K. I'd sell all my old equipment if I do get something else. Its still in pretty good condition and it been abused I had all that stuff for 3 years and most of the time I've been upgrading.

All around good stuff.

ID makes speakers (including subs) only.

Arc makes speakers, amps, and DSP.

Diamond Audio, Focal, Audison, and Zapco are pretty good too. They make mostly amps and speakers I think.

4th Generation

I agree that JL Audio is quite expensive. I was going to get a complete JL Audio system but then I think their speakers are way too over priced and aren't as strong as other brands. I'm sure they sound good, but not the best value for the money. I suggest trying Alpine since their head units sounds great and they make good speakers and amps, especially the PDX series digital amps. Not sure about their subs though, how come you used your Alpine subs for only 1 week? Was there something wrong with them? I'm currently using all JBL right now and they are pretty good for the money. Of course, with every brand there's always a lower level entry product and a top-of-the-line product.

03 Tacoma 4x4 TRD, JL bass, JL amp, focal speakers front and back, Kenwood system, system rocks. Recommend JL if you can afford it.

They didn't sound all that good to me I had the R Type subwoofers with my current amp the JL Audio E1800D and just wasn't hitting harder than my Pioneer Premier subwoofers maybe it was just my amp settings or something I didn't think about it at the time. I ended up selling them to help get my car fixed. I now have some Rockford Fosgate HE subwoofers which suck even worse it full of trunk rattle and it not clean I'm about to get rid of those as well.

What kind of sound are you going for and what type of box are your subs in? If you want cleaner tighter bass, you should have a sealed enclosure. If you are going for louder, boomier bass, go with a ported enclosure.

If you find a good shop, not Circuit City or Best Buy, you should be able to test the subs in your car if you have an amp installed.

almost my whole system is arc audio and i recommended to everyone. They equipment is high end most of it is fairly priced as long as you don't look at the SE amp line.(Those amps are great just damn expensive but if jl stuff is in your price range than some of these might be)

i dont know if one brand is good all around. one brand may excel in one area and fail in the other.
