will try to keep this as short and descriptive as possible
a few months ago i bought 2 12inch subs in a box plus a monoblock amp. i had everything hooked up and the system worked great....no worries there. the sub box was not screwed into place tho, it was just strollin around in the boot.
three weeks ago i decided i would screw the sub box into place and tidy up the cables a bit. so i set everything in place, screwed in the box and rewired the amp.
i then decided to test the system to check that everything was working correctly. to my horror there was an electrical hum comming through the stereo with only one turn of the key. i then turned the key again and the noise got louder. finally i started the engine and the niose was extemely loud.
next i unplugged the rca for the subs to see if the noise would go away but it didnt and i still have the noise to this day.
even with the sub box and momo block completely removed from the car i still have the problem.
i have tracked back everything i have done and still can not find the problem. all ground points have been changed, rcas have been changed and all cables have been re-routed through the car.
i have hooked my amps into other cars and they work fine so it cant be the amps.
one other interesting point is that the indicators, rear demister all add to the interferience when they are in use. when the engine is running i am also picking up really loud alternator noise. this noise is 10 times louder than the normal alternator noise commonly picked up through a high powered car stereo
i have rung around the local car audio places and have been unable to receive an answer. i have even payed a car audio pro to fix the problem and they can not fix it either.
p.s. the power cables are well seperated from the rca's
well i have a camry too and just about the same thing happened to me but my noise doesnt seem to be as loud as yours. ive tried almost everything you can try to get rid of alt noise and nothing has worked. if you ever find out what causes this let me know.
try removing the amp from where you have screwed it and move it to a non conducting area eg on top of som carpet and see if you still have noise, try and replicate how you had it originally and now after...if anything head down to jaycar and grab a Noise Filter
i haven't had much time to do engine or exterior mods. the only thing that is alright in my car atm is the sound system, and in 4 weeks it should be a bit better once i get my new amp. i would love to start work on the engine but i'm kinda low on cash so i need to find a better paying job....
one day i shall do what crazy_camry is doing and turbo it...probably a long time away it's all good
well i was looking at this kit .... http://performance.narcs.net/3vzfe.htm but never recieved a responce back about it so i have given up on the idea for now.
i know what you mean about the money side of things though. i wish i could go out and buy everything for the car all at once. at this stage i am buying one new thing/part a week.
Make sure your ground is good, thats a sure way to pick up noise. Also if your amps are screwed directly to metal try to insolate them where they are screwed down

Startin to wonder about this Avalon!
i am not to sure what is exactly wrong But a under 30 dollar hint may be to get a noise filter. You hook it to the power line that runs to the radio it is to 15min install wit good results.
a huge Thank You to everyone that took the time to reply.
the problem has been found. it has been determined then the problems lies with the rca out and internal amp in the head unit. i found the problem after spending another day with the multimeter, scratching my head.
if anyone ever encounters an audio problem like mine i would definatle suggest
1) hooking all power cables to another car battery. ie..a friends car. if there is still noice then there in no chance of a ground loop.
as well as
2) run a spare rca cable through the car to test the rca connection. this will replace the rcas that are running under the carpet. if there is still noise then you can be sure that your rcas are fine.
3) disconnect all wires from your headunit and just leave the rcas plugged in the use some spare wire and clips to connect the +power -power and acc power wires to the corrosponding pins in the back of your headunit. these power patch wire should be run dirrectly from your battery.
4)if still noise the replace head unit with that of a friends and you will most likely find that the noise is gone.
these are the steps i followed to find my problem which is something that the experts couldnt find
