Gen5 Using OEM speaker brackets for 6X9's

I saw that at least 2 people in here have installed aftermarket 6X9's in the front using the OEM brackets. I understand that you just cut out the speaker cone and drop the new speaker in its place.

I tried it, but the new speaker is much bigger and it wont drop down completely. The new speaker is too big for the cutout. I'm wondering how those other guys did it?
