it should be quite easy, basically you have to take off the black piece on the centre console (which is held by clips). once that is off, you will see that there are two brackets holding the head unit, with two screws on each side. un bolt them and you have your head unit and brackets separate from the console area. after that just remove the bolts holding the brackets onto the head unit if you are changing units, if you're just goin to plug in/out whatever then just plug away. it can depend on the way the unit is installed tho. do you know if your head unit was screwed into place, or slid into the metal sleeve thingy....

it's kinda hard to explain without pictures but i should be able to take some hmmm well soon, because i have an exam tomorrow so i can't do it then, i'll try saturday if i'm free....when are you planning on taking it out tho? you can ring me saturday mate if you wish...

all the best mate

lol i got an exam tomorrow as well. i probably wont be taking the HU out till weekend after next (when all exams over). also i worked out exactly what i have to do for the wiring for my amp (got it today), i just need another 2 sets of rca's to go down from the headunit to amp. anyway i'm off to get a good nights sleep, thanks for the info on HU, as well as everything else. good luck for your exam tomorrow.

Haha, ive almost finished my new system, and im about to install in my car. Ill take pictures if you like, gen 2 camry, and ill try to show you how mine is installed. im running the Pioneer head unit with 1HX2 power 12' and a 800s rockford amp. I should have bought a mono amp, because i cant afford to stick 2 HX2's in my car. They are 50lbs each. I built my own box as well, i just hope it works. I plan on doing the install Friday/Saturday.

if your not going to be doing anything till next weekend then it'll work fine with me, i'll be exam free then too so i'll be able to help ya...good luck with physics... and no prob with the help mate...happy to...

shuluke, sounds like you have quite a nice system there, wouldn't mind seeing some pics , hopefully once my exams are over i can put in the new amp i just bought (Eclipse PA5422) so it should boost my sound a bit. Rockford...niiiice should be pumpin nicely....and i feel for you abt the weight thing, i remember when i got my focal, it was the heaviest fvcker i'd held if i'm right i think it was 13kg. one night i was holding it and cleaning the cone cos it was dusty, and i had my finger in the vent to hold it, and i stood up but forgot how heavy it was and the sub went forward....i just managed to prevent it from falling off my finger and onto the floor....finger hurt tho...but i was more worried if it hit the floor, 1 big ass dent on wooden floor, and 2 screwed sub....phew...always took care handling it after that....

how heavy was the box and sub all up? either way you'll feel it, then when you take it all out it one day you'll be like hmmm so light in the car...

all the best mate...

Hey,

Thanks, i hope my system is as good as your thinking.. I dont know how to post pictures but i havent even tried so we will see about that. Yeah i had originally bought 2 hx2's but with each sub alone weighing in at 50 lbs, i thought again. My box probably weighs around 20-40, not really sure, and the amp comes in at 20lbs. I just want a little bump in the trunk, thats all im asking for.. Ill take pictures of the subs alone and the box and stuff, its magnificant! So i think ill be putting in 110 or so pounds. Wish me luck!

sorry for the huge bump...but i was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the stock HU? i got a pioneer deh-3700mp used from a friend for 50bucks...just need to install it. or would it be better to get it done professionally? and if so, how much would best buy or circuit city charge? thanks!

they'd probbly charge you around 50$. but it's not that hard... i installed 2 HU in my gen2 by myself.. all you would need is the DIN kit and the rest is easy... save some $ and do it yourself... if you know how to splice wires... there's 2 screws on top of the panel on top of the AC controls and the rest is held on by clips which with a pull it'll come out... the HU is held on with 4 screws sometimes less
