3rd Generation Camry power antenna lead amperage

Can anyone tell me how many amps the power antenna lead from HU to Antenna relay draws (on a gen 3 Camry)?

I want to put a switch so that the antenna doesn't go up everytime I turn the headunit on in radio mode, but am planning to play a CD.

I'd like the switch to be fairly small, so, for instance, I'd like to use one rated at 3a. Does that seem safe, given that the whole unit is on a 15a circuit?

To be clear, I'm taking about the ANT lead coming out of the HU to the relay, not the power to the relay which is on the Dome Light fuse.

The service manual lists the expected voltage in various states, but I can't find info about the current.

I'm going to guess that the power from the HU to the relay is of LOW power. Thats the whole reason it only controls a relay, most HU's with both power antenna and amp turn-on are of 12volt, unless the hu has a 5v amp turn on (to combat the pop at the amp). I'm pretty sure your safe, but maybe the manufacture lists the actual output on the wire.

Thanks Septicdeath.

I just installed an aftermarket head unit in our other car, and it had a sticker on the antenna lead saying max 0.1 Amp. So that would confirm they draw very little.

Some people solve the problem by doing the s2000 antenna conversion rather than adding a switch to the dash
