hey,
I gotta a question will Kicker CompVR 12" 400 RMS sound better then Rockford Fosgate HX2 12" 500 RMS? going into a ported or a bandpass box? and what should i power them up with?
thanks. need to know.
A better question would be which one is louder, not which one sounds better, since it's hard to differentiate clean sound when only bass notes are played. I can't comment on the RF's, but on the CVR's, they are pretty nice, all with DVCs. If you want LOUD, check out Kicker's site under the technical information link. You can build a slot-ported box that will be LOUD. But a single sub in a slot-ported box is about the same size as two subs in a sealed box. Bandpass will be the loudest as long as it's designed properly, otherwise, it will sound very sloppy. Get a good, reputable 500-W amp.
12" Comp VR in a sealed box would be nice. I wouldn't suggest getting smaller than a 12" sub... most 10s won't play as low as 20 Hz. I've never heard HX2s before, but I know the Comp VR can take more power than 400 RMS.

i will be now getting the compvr's 12", but i have heard that if u put them in a ported box would hit harder, is this true? and should i get a RF or Kicker amp? mono or 2 channel?
thanks.
If I remember correctley the 10's are silver, if they are silver don't get them, they don't really give you that boom boom bass more like pow pow, you ever ran bass through you 6x9's? thats how it sounds....and when I heard them it was 2 10's in a sealed box..
I'd go with a ported box whenver I can, as long as there is room. Not only you get a deeper bass output, but also a higher volume, as much as 3-dB. It will be "punchy and accurate" when the amp driving the sub(s) is set up properly. If the subs weren't able to produce good bass output, why would companies like JL or Kicker have dimensions to build a ported box? All subs will play down to 20-Hz, but they don't have the same output as compared to 45-Hz, and a test tone CD can prove that.
