Please explain this to me...

Bought my brother-in-law's '90 Corolla SR5 couple 4AFE 5 speed...63k miles. Very straight, clean and looking like it came off the show room floor.

The stereo in the dash is an Alpine 7502 AM/FM cassette with knobs. I was thinking of replacing with a CD player but was first a little curious about this Alpine.

After searching the internet this stereo is going from $75 to $125 and is considered "Old Skool"...a much wanted stereo and something that "Fresh Prince" talked about. What he talked about I have no clue.

My wife says I should just leave it alone since it works great and just get a cassette adapter for the mp3 player if I want to listen to recorded music.

Why is this old cassette deck stereo that someone wants so much that for a few bucks more can buy something more up to date? Why is it so popular?

if people are willing to pay that much for a used cassette deck then i say sell it and buy a new CD player with MP3 capability's built in for then 1/2 the price.

Twisted Sid...

I was thinking the same thing. The wife is telling me not to, since if it is not broken then don't fix it. Heck, I can fix things and just completed the timing belt, water pump and front brakes. I mainly just listen to FM radio back and forth to work anyway. The problem with this stereo are the knobs. I put my coffee mug in the holder just below the radio but the mug bumps lightly against the knobs and either changes the volume or the station depending on what holder side the mug is in.

I also got curious and looked to see what the rear speakers are...they are from Tenvox. They are 12w speakers. I am a bit old school too and just like the stereo sounding good and not needing to have the windows vibrate.

Thanks.... kc
